An open old farm gate leading into the flowering Walkabout landscape

The Walkabout

Come a little farther.

The paths begin in familiar places. Follow them long enough and you may find someone familiar, too.

Your next step

Pick a place. See what’s there.

Tap the barn, meadow, or Rock Pile to see the real place behind the map. At the barn, choose “Explore inside” to follow the photographs through its doors.

Map markers name four landmarks. The thirteen story stops are listed below.

The Great Barn.

Some places already
hold the story.

The big red barn belongs in the Walkabout just as it is. Its doors, old boards, and familiar shape give the map a real place to lead us.

Start outside. Then follow the doorway toward the next part of the story.

Meadow & Pollinator Pause

A real meadow, a few white hives, and another way to see the same landscape.

The Rock Pile

The actual pile gives the imagined landscape its size, texture, and starting point.

The Giant Rock

One great stone, tucked into the living landscape.

A surface worth
looking closer at.

Lichen, lines, and natural markings give the Giant Rock the feeling of a message board in the Walkabout. The questions begin with what is already there.

This is the single Giant Rock, a different landmark from the field’s Rock Pile.

A little farther along

A place to stop.

Some marks are made with a pen. Others take a little longer. Around the Giant Rock, the questions begin with what is already there.

Sit with the question

A little farther along

After sunset, someone keeps watch.

Rumpy knows the untidy corners and the places a strange noise might hide. Being quiet enough to listen is still taking practice.
